The picturesque Adelaide Oval has undergone a redevelopment that has updated facilities but still retained its charm as one of the world’s great sports stadiums.

Features include a new Eastern Grandstand with 4700 seats, a new small stand on the South Mound with seating for just under 1000 and a new Eastern Gatehouse and Oval Entrance. A new 300 seat Members Dining Room has also been built on the third level of the Bradman Stand and the catering and function facilities behind the Edwin Smith Stand have been expanded.

“Fantech products were used for two kiosks in the new Eastern Stand, store-rooms, toilet blocks and power switch-rooms,” said David Lane, Project Manager for contractor, National Air Conditioning Group.

Product included bifurcated in-line axial fans, plus attenuators and roof-mounted fans. “The project went very smoothly,” David said. “It was great to work on such a historic site. We finished, as planned, just before the 2003 Rugby World Cup.” The re-development has boosted capacity to 33,59 people.

Since 1871, Adelaide Oval has been the scene of some great cricket, including top performances by Don Bradman and launching the career of the Chappell brothers. It has also hosted a variety of other sports including Australian Rules and Rugby League.

“The Adelaide Oval is recognized world-wide for its atmosphere and history and we were pleased to be involved in the re-development,” said Fantech’s SA Manager, Peter Smith.
